33 weeks

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Ask me how I'm doing. Go ahead. My answer? I'M SO TIRED. AND SLEEPY. ALL THE DANG TIME. Not to mention I feel like I have a runny nose for days on end. I'm the type of person who makes To Do lists every day and works toward accomplishing at least 10 things on that list. These days I'm lucky enough to have enough strength to go to work and maybe run one errand, as long as I do that one errand as soon as I get off of work. If I go home and sit down, find a Law & Order marathon on tv, that's it for the day. I'm in bed by 9pm and you won't see me until I have to be at work at 6am the next day.
Besides that, I'm great! I have 2 months left to milk the "I'm pregnant" excuse to get other people to do things for me like pick up stuff I drop and carry heavy objects. OH OH OH! And apparently there's a special discount for pregnant women when paying for things in public. I went to a bridal show with my sister and her friend at the MGM at Foxwoods over the weekend. We were looking forward to getting free samples of wedding cake but didn't find any so we went to a nearby sandwich/pastry/gelato stand to get cake. I wasn't in the mood for cake and opted for a strawberry smoothie instead. After waiting a few minutes for an employee to make my smoothie, he found out that the ice cream was frozen and couldn't make it. Ok, no problem, I'll go for a milkshake. A few more minutes pass before I get my shake. Sister and I go find a table for us while her friend pays for the stuff. She comes to tell us that the guy felt bad about my smoothie and only charged her for one of the cake slices. BOOYAH and none of us even caused a scene to acquire such a sweet deal.
My ongoing "to do" of cleaning my room will next be focused on cleaning up my craft area. Since the holidays it's turned into a dumping ground for Christmas gifts I have yet to give and clothes I need to donate. I have a lot of unfinished sewing projects and unused fabric piled up underneath small plastic totes holding random craft supplies. I'll most likely stuff a lot of it into a bigger plastic tote and store it in my closet but not after I try to craft some baby items. I found a few projects I'd like to try if I can make some time while I'm not passed out sleeping at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

! Crinkle square toy (via Craftzine.com blog) : My friend told me that her baby LOVES toys with tags on them. She said she'd give her baby a stuffed monkey toy but the one thing she'll do is chew on the tag with the cleaning instructions on it. If my baby want to chew on tags, I'll get him drunk on them.
! Nursing cover (via Prudentbaby.com) : I've seen cute nursing covers at Target and Babies R Us but these things look so easy to make since it's basically a sheet of fabric that hangs off your neck. If I find a cute fabric to use I'm sure I can make it in a day.
! Pacifier clip : WAY TOO EASY. It's a piece of ribbon attached to a clip and the pacifier.
! Baby tuxedo onesie : so Aiden has something nice to wear to my sister's wedding… hehe

29 weeks. Or is it 30 already? 31 perhaps?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Time is going by so quickly.

I'm in my third trimester. Just like Alpha Mom said, the baby is gaining weight and still moving around. I wish I could tell what position the baby is in when I feel my belly. I'm only imagining he's breakdancing in there and that thought alone makes me laugh. Imaging a tiny piece of cardboard box in my belly and he's balancing on one arm and spinning around. Isn't that funny? I told him he'll be on the 25th season of America's Best Dance Crew if he keeps practicing.
I had another ultrasound this week and I saw the baby open his eyes. It was weird and kinda freaky because he opened his eyes as soon as the technician put the transducer to my stomach. Like he was expecting us. Like some kind of alien.
I'm finished setting up baby registries. Maybe I went overboard but I made sure to cover my bases. I didn't want to pressure people to only purchase items at Babies R Us, where I think everything is overpriced. So I also registered at Walmart and Target. Then a friend suggested I register at Papoose, a local store that sells natural maternity and baby products after I expressed an interest in using cloth diapers. So there you go. There's your options. Choose wisely or go hog wild.
The baby is also practicing breathing. Once in a while he starts hiccupping and he does it rhythmically for a couple minutes. It's cute. I also like to imagine that he's beatboxing. I'm not trying to raise him into a hip hop hipster child, I promise…

…at the store using one of those BabyBjorn carriers in red, and I really want one. But geez, why are they more expensive than a Jansport backpack?

Two and a half months left

Friday, January 8th, 2010

These next two months are going to go by so quickly. My baby bump has only started to show and I like it. I wish I could keep it a little longer because I find it kind of cute. I'm now just getting used people touching my belly because there's actually something there to feel for. I'm not a touchy-feely person even though I give out hugs to anyone and everyone, but  my stomach is a sensitive area and it doesn't like too much attention.

Since the last entry I've had an ultrasound, I got tested for gestational diabetes, I registered the baby at Target, and baby daddy and I picked a name.

Say hello to Aiden! I'm not going to lie, the ultrasound photos make him look alien but I guarantee you he's going to be super cute when he's born. This is at about 26 weeks and he's 2 pounds. Since I don't have an exact due date I need to have more ultrasounds done every 3 weeks to track the baby's growth and make sure the initial date is still good. See more of the ultrasound photos here.
The gestational diabetes test came out fine. Aside from the tests my only problem is staying hydrated. Even when I wasn't pregnant, it was difficult to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Since I'm aware that the baby needs the water, I'm trying to be attentive to his needs so I drink even when I don't think I'm thirsty. I hate that I pee more frequently but I'm fortunate to have clean water to drink.
A couple girlfriends are semi-secretly planning a baby shower for me and I've been given homework of compiling a guest list and registering at Babies R Us, Wal-Mart, and Target. I registered at Target the other day and I brought my friend Monica with me because she knows how to do it and helped me figure out what I'll need and how many. I ended up almost putting everything on the registry list… and that was only one store!
My mom's been pretty excited and she's been buying a lot of cute onesies and outfits for cheap at Goodwill. They look practically new and I'm not against being frugal when it comes to buying clothes that he'll grow out of quickly. She managed to pick up some Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren onesies too, and that satisfies my inner need for brand names…
There's still so much I need to do like clean out an unused bedroom to turn into a nursery. That'll be the hardest task because did I ever tell you I hate to clean? I really do. I'm great at re-organizing clutter but not actually creating space. I'm really tempted to throw everything out.
I've learned that being pregnant makes you tired. It's true. I find myself needing to take a nap once a day and since I stopped consuming caffeine, I'm forced to sleep at least 8 hours a night. Which I don't complain about, I love to sleep. Being pregnant just gives me an excuse to sleep more.
I'm really happy that everything is going well. I'm more happy that baby daddy is excited even though he's on the other side of the world right now. I'm hoping he's able to be at Aiden's birth because I think he should have the opportunity to see his first son come into the world. He's just lucky he doesn't have to come with me to the breastfeeding class!

A Celebration of Twelfth Night

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The Chorus of Westerly presents A Celebration of Twelfth Night this weekend. The annual production is back again serving as the second part to last year’s story. It’s difficult to explain what it’s about, as it is not the same one every year. Not to get it confused with the Shakespeare comedy, it does refer to the twelfth night holiday after an exciting battle between good and evil. It also includes an appearance by Father Christmas and a bunch of crazy characters. A lot of fun will be had.

It runs this friday through sunday. Friday at 7:30. The saturday and sunday performances are at 1pm, 4pm, and 8pm. There are also Peasant Feasts at 6pm and if you like to eat really good food, be there.

For more information and to order tickets to the show and/or peasant feast, visit ChorusOfWesterly.org.
