You know that baby I've been talking about? The one that's supposed to be born on March18th? I had it. Four days ago. Three weeks early. Very quickly I just wanted to let you know where I've been and what I've been up to this week.
I had a baby.
No kidding.
I'm serious.
Stop it. I'm not joking.
Aiden Basila Bice was born on tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 5:38 in the morning. He was born right after my water breaking and then pushing through 3 contractions.
The funny part? I did it naturally. You know what that means? NO PAIN KILLERS. AU NATURALE. PAIN AND ALL. I'M A MASOCHIST TOWARDS MYSELF. Not really, but it was too late to get an epidural and I had to start pushing as soon as I got to the hospital.
I'll get into details next time. My milk just came in and my boobs are the size of grapefruits. There's a boy upstairs waiting to get his cute lips on these juicy things.
xoxo

Imagine a person whose car is sinking under water. The first thing one should do after releasing yourself from the seatbelt is try to open the window by using your fist or kicking with your feet. I feel like my baby is trying to break out of the womb by putting himself upside down and kicking with all his might.
When he kicks it hurts. Then I find one of his feet and tickle it to get him back for kicking me first. We have a lot of fun together.

I'm the queen of talking to inanimate objects and this time I had to apologize to my sewing machine for an error on my part. My aforementioned bobbin thread problem wasn't even the problem. The problem was that I didn't know how to thread my own sewing machine. I'd rather not go into detail on what little mistake I made because I was embarassed in front of myself when I discovered what I didn't do. Anyfart! Here's the finished product.
I like how it came out! It's so crinkly the the tags are so cute.

I am nesting big time right now. My closet being the last area in my bedroom yet to be cleaned, so far I've thrown out numerous bags of trash, recycled a lot of paper, and donated tons of stuff to Goodwill. Finally I've been able to get the motivation to go through and part with stuff I've accumulated in at least the last 15 years of my life. In fact, I just spent the last 15 minutes cleaning my junk drawer. I am happy to say that today is the day I am willing to let go of my POG collection.
Going through all my stuff has given me the opportunity to analyze what kind of person I am by my possessions. I love to read, I love fashion, I like cute things like Hello Kitty, I like to sew, and I love pretty stationery. Ok, I already know all that about myself but now everything's more organized. If someone else were to observe the objects in my room they could easily make these assumptions.
While I take a break from nesting I'm going to make myself a cup of hot chocolate, do my nails, catch up on New York Fashion Week collections from the last 2 days, and watch a mini marathon of CSI: Miami. Hello weekend!

Vogue magazine shared Grace Coddington's story on how she became a Vogue reader. Vogue then opened up the opportunity for their readers to submit their own stories on how they became Vogue readers. I thought I'd share mine of how it was an eye-opening experience to the years ahead of my bad fashion choices to my neverending effort to refine my personal style. Also, the chance that my name and story might be featured among other stories in the April issue would be cool too.
When I was in my pre-teens my older sister subscribed to Vogue. She wasn't interested in fashion so half of the issues went unread. One day I flipped through the pages of an issue and I was amazed by the images I saw on each page. I especially enjoyed looking at the extended spreads of the models alone, makeup done, standing in the most amazing poses, and wearing haute couture like it's a human installation of art. That's the moment I considered fashion not only a seasonal commercial venture, but also a form of art where a designer's vision is translated through the finest fibers and materials. I thank Vogue, Grace, and Anna for opening my eyes to the world of fashion.

Last month when I got my ultrasound the technician caught the baby opening and closing his eyes. Watching it on the screen was pretty freaky because I'm seeing a living being that's moving on the screen AND HE'S IN MY BODY. I'm still amazed at my body's ability to procreate. The baby is like an anomaly that I can't physically hold and see until he's born. He's like a Christmas gift stored in my uterus and I can't open it up until the due date.
A month later and I do believe he's gotten cuter. All his features are more developed and all the different technicians keep complimenting how cute his face is. I have a feeling they say those things to every mother and like every mother I believe it to be true of my own child.
Seriously, isn't he cute?! Mind the eery black and white Alfred Hitchcock-looking images but man, he's a future heartbreaker right there. He was asleep at the time but I saw his eyes move and lips pursing and it made my heart explode.
The one thing that worried me was that the technician found some foreign matter, some kind of calcification in the placenta. Apparently the doctor who came to look at it wasn't very concerned on if it posed a danger to the baby. She'll just check on it again when I go back in a few weeks. I'm hoping it's a piece of baby poop but I know that's not the case. Either way my baby is still cute.

Last week I found a pair of
Steve Madden shoes on sale for $15! It was marked down from $49.
It was marked down four times because it had a broken zipper and was being sold as is. I hesitated to buy it one day so I put it back and walked away thinking I could find something better that wasn't damaged. I did, but the other pairs were out of my price range and I really liked this one because it was the style I'd been looking for. Two days later I still had this pair in mind and considered the pros and cons of buying it. I imagined I could fix the zipper myself or bring it to a shoe repairman and still get it fixed for a fraction of the price I'd have to pay. I went back with my fingers crossed that nobody else picked it up since I last saw it. Lucky!
I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this way, but I love to peel the clearance tags off an item to see what prices it was reduced from. It's like I'm playing a lottery scratchcard backwards. In this case I wonder about the (at least) four times it has been picked up, tried on, price tag looked at, and put back on the shelf. Why did other people not buy it? Was it the damaged part? Was it still out of their price range? Was there something better?
In the end I like to consider it shoe fate that I found this pair. And that makes me feel damn good.
