Breton Stripes

Monday, May 31st, 2010

I’m obsessed with stripes. Though I’m undecided on how I feel about wearing horizontal stripes. Do they really make me look wider or no? Whatever the case I still have a bunch of striped blouses & sweaters in my wardrobe.

I especially love the Breton striped sailor shirt. It’s so french. (I really love anything French.) I have a handful of striped shirts and sweaters but only one that closely resembles Breton stripes and even then it’s not really a shirt, more like a light hoodie with three-quarter sleeves.

So, I think I’m trying too hard to persuade myself to go shopping.

Here’s some Breton Stripe porn.

What We Wore

Farmer in the dell

I went consignment shopping with a couple friends a few days ago in search of summer clothes for Aiden. Fortunately I found a few t-shirts and shorts. And overalls. Really? Yeah. For some wild reason I thought Aiden would look totally cute in denim overalls. I might have gone a little overboard with my bright idea because I came home with about 6 of them. It’s ok, he’ll wear all of them if I say so.

If you happen to be visiting historic downtown Mystic, Connecticut with your kiddos, do drop by Twice is Nice. They’re around the corner from the Mystic River Bridge.

I got pwned

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

So I was changing Aiden’s diaper this morning from a disposable to a cloth diaper. He got diaper rash from using the disposable so I spent an extra 30 seconds to air out his area before snapping him into the new diaper. Well, bad idea on my part because in those extra few seconds of him being exposed he smiled at me and then peed. That boy has a large bladder! He kept going and going and didn’t stop until after I stumbled trying to pull a baby wipe out of the package to cover him.

I’m pretty sure I react the same exact way when a pan on the stove catches fire. I have a horrified look on my face then I throw any object at the area hoping it’ll stop projecting itself in my direction. Needless to say, today turned into a laundry day.

This was Aiden’s outfit yesterday.

Breakthrough

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Today as I was changing Aiden’s diaper I tried to amuse him by making noises by blowing air through my closed lips. (I guess if my lips came into contact with his tummy it would be considered a raspberry, if that gives you an idea of what I was doing. Anyways!) While I was doing it I realized I could do it for a long period of time in one breath and I remembered that it was one of the vocal exercises I couldn’t do for the longest time. I don’t know what happened between then and now but now I can do it! Maybe the next time I take voice lessons I won’t feel defeated when starting with simple vocal exercises.

Maybe it’s not too late to keep trying to reach my goal of becoming an opera singer.

can you eat fresh-from-the-ocean fish & chips. The fish, not the chips. They probably came from Idaho or something. Eating a plate of fish & chips with a side of tartar sauce just feels so New England.

Summer defined by a shoe

Monday, May 24th, 2010

If there was a shoe that screamed SUMMER! it would be this espadrille wedge bootie by Christian Louboutin. I love it because it combines my love of booties and espadrille wedges. Who knew it could be done? Apparently the designers at Louboutin knew! That makes me love CL even more.

3 Months

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Dear Aiden,

You went from crybaby to cute crybaby to really cute crybaby in three months. I’ll tell you now like I tell you every day, you are the most beautiful baby I’ve ever met.

I love to greet you in the morning. Even though I see you all day and throughout the night, when a new day breaks and I see the morning light shining on your smiling face it’s as if I’m seeing you for the first time. Each day you’re growing so each day there’s something slightly different about you.

The first couple months were difficult trying to take care of someone who needed constant attention every minute of the day (literally) but I forced myself to enjoy every minute of it. I don’t know if being a preemie has something to do with the fact that you can’t stand being alone, even while sleeping, or maybe you just love laying on a human pillow. Nonetheless, you’ve already logged in many nap time hours on your mom, auntie Jane, and grandma. You nurse then take a nap on grandma, you nurse then take a nap on auntie, you nurse then take a nap with mommy. Then you sleep at night with mommy holding your hand. Boy you’ve got it good.

Now you’re so animated. You’re making the cutest noises, you laugh at everything, and you make eye contact as if you’re staring into my soul. I’d like to think that when you smile at me you’re saying to yourself, “I love my mommy,” but I’m pretty sure you’re actually thinking, “I’ve got a dirty bomb ready to drop into my diaper in a couple minutes.”

You’re strong too. You’re my little meathead. You’ve got the fattest thighs I’ve ever seen but there must be some muscle under all that baby fat because you can kick. You’ve got tantrum-ready legs. Speaking of tantrums, you throw some good ones when you’re really hungry or tired. You aunties know they can’t play around when you throw your head back, arch your back, and your legs straighten out to start kicking. Fortunately your mom knows she can make you stop by either popping a boob or pacifier in your mouth. I’m not gonna lie, you’re so cute even in tantrum mode.

You amaze me. I love you.

Love,
Mom

I gave birth to a big mouth billy bass

Aiden is becoming more vocal these days. He’s “cooing” as the experts say. It’s so cute because whatever we’re doing he’ll start cooing and making eye contact with me as if he’s having a conversation with me. So whoever is holding him will pretend to carry on a conversation with him and he’ll coo all sorts of vowel sounds like he’s telling a really good story. Sometimes the stories are really funny because he’ll coo and laugh. Those ones are my favorite. I love a gummy smile and hearty laugh. Love it so much it hurts.

Marie Antoinette would be proud

I’m feverishly trying to finish these decorations for a friend’s baby shower this weekend. I might have put one too many things on my plate by offering to do these decorations and bake cupcakes, but I really enjoy doing it. So! These decorations are really pretty and are made of tissue paper. The baby shower’s theme is Care Bears so the wall hangings and table decorations are in colors of a few of the Care Bears. I’m doing all of this on my bed and at the moment I am swimming in a sea of pastel-colored tissue paper. All I need is to be wearing a Victorian gown and wig while eating plates of sweets and I’d be all set.

P.S. Ok, yes I know I posted a picture of Kirsten Dunst from the movie Marie Antionette but it’s the only picture I could find portraying what I was imagining.

P.P.S. Apparently Marie did not say “Let them eat cake!” Interesting.

Aiden doesn’t care for The Hills

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Last night Aiden was really cranky because he was so tired, but he refused to stop crying and go to sleep. Auntie Joan didn’t want to leave him crying but she couldn’t make him stop! He just screamed in everyone’s faces. Then we had a good laugh because he’s so cute when he’s mad, head tossed back and legs kicking, ya’ll mamas know what I’m talking about!!

Even grandma couldn’t make him stop, and she’s his favorite person to fall asleep on! So then I held him one more time and after popping a pacifier in his mouth he fell asleep two minutes into the new episode of The Hills.

Thank you Heidi Montag for putting my baby to sleep.
